Framed by the Word

“Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear” (Hebrews 11:3).

Our verse today gives us the main way we should accept the truth of Creation. We are to do so by faith. The same faith it took to come and accept Jesus as Savior is what we need to believe in every truth of God’s Word. That includes the account of the Creation. As the inspired Word of a Holy God, we must simply believe all He has said in His Word. God framed the world by His Word. It is up to us to accept it by faith.

Through Him and For Him

“For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities or powers: all things were created by him, and for him” (Colossians 1:16).

Today’s verse states nothing was excluded from God’s Creation. Even the tiniest atom which we cannot see was made by God. Everything was perfect and complete. Nothing had to be improved upon. No one else could ever have the power and wisdom to construct things the way God did. They were fashioned by Him because they were made for Him. As previously stated, God took great pleasure in His all-inclusive work. God’s Word leaves no doubt about the truth of the account of Creation.

He Made It All

“All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made” (John 1:3).

We have already noted that Jesus was the “Word.” Through that Word was the giving and sustaining of life. He, who had the power with God to create the world and everything in it, continues to have the power to preserve His creation. The Word confirms the truth of the Creation. We don’t have to unravel any mysteries of the universe. God made it all, pure and simple.

By His Word

“By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth” (Psalm 33:6).

This week we will be looking at how the Word testifies of the existence of God and the truth of Creation. Science tries to refute it with all its man-made theories. God made man perfect the first time. Man did not have to evolve from anything to be what he is today. God placed him in a perfect world designed according to His plan. He spoke or breathed everything to existence by Himself. Man was part of creation not a participant in the process. If we believe God’s Word as truth, we don’t have to look to theories that try to explain away the Deity and power of Almighty God. The Triune God was there at Creation. I choose to believe the words of an eyewitness. If God says it, then that should settle it.

Ceaseless Prayer

“Pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

Have you ever wondered why God told us to pray without ceasing? I have. But the older I get and the more dismal the world looks I begin to understand why. It is literally because we need it. We don’t pray for God’s benefit, we pray for ours. If we don’t pray continually, we lose sight of the eternal and begin to look at the earthly.

We have an incredible opportunity as we begin our Pre-Thanksgiving week of prayer for Missions: North America. Just remember as you pray for these requests, so do hundreds of other women.

So the moral of the story – PRAY! Let’s make a difference.

Forward

“And what was the result? You are now ashamed of the things you used to do, things that end in eternal doom. But now you are free from the power of sin and have become slaves of God. Now you do those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord”(Romans 6:21-23).

“…but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us…But we must hold on to the progress we have already made. Dear brothers and sisters, pattern your lives after mine, and learn from those who follow our example…We are citizens of Heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are waiting for him to return as our savior. He will take our weak and mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under control” (Philippians 3:13-21)

“So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up in honor” (James 4:7-10).

We must believe that if Almighty God forgets our past, then we are also given that freedom. The idea in Philippians 3 is that we must KEEP MOVING FORWARD. In James 4, it is made clear that it is right for us to weep over our mistakes. It is right to regret our mistakes. It is not right to dwell in the past. Paul said that we must hold on to our progress! Romans 6 reveals that we are no longer slaves to sin, and no longer slaves to our failures. We are free to live unashamed and forgiven.

Creation Declares His Glory

“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork” (Psalm 19:1).

As we conclude our devotions this week on the account of the Creation, let us think about how God’s glory is proved in it. I haven’t traveled much beyond my own state, but within my state I have seen God’s handiwork. There are scenic places such as the Ozark hills and the beautiful springs of southwest Missouri. I have been to California and Colorado and seen some very majestic sights. I never dreamed I’d ever get to see the ocean but stood in awe when my eyes got to behold its beauty back in the summer of 2005. The following year I was privileged to view some other awesome sights out in Colorado Springs. At the top of Pike’s Peak I thought of “How Great Thou Art” more than “America the Beautiful.” If you have ever been there with the high altitude you know it is very “breath-taking.” Seriously, I don’t regret the drive up there and its picturesque view.

Even to look at a blade of grass, a single flower, an autumn leaf, or a snowflake is to see the glory of God within His creation. How anyone can look about and see anything God has made and say there is no God is beyond my comprehension. We may, at times, take creation for granted. However, even when we don’t take time to praise God for all we enjoy on this earth, His other creation will always “declare the glory of God.”
