Facing the Future

What will this new year bring?  What challenges will we face?  What opportunities await us to be used for God’s glory?  These questions will either excite us or overwhelm us. Whatever changes WNAC will embrace this year, I know we will rise together to any challenge. How do I know that? Read our history. As “laborers together with God,” I believe we will.

I will miss writing the devotionals. I do have a writing project I need to take off the shelf. I plan to work on my memoirs. I want my kids and precious granddaughter to know what a difference God has made in my life. I desire your prayers that I will have the physical strength to complete this task.

My prayer for the future of  WNAC is that it will continue to have an impact on the lives of  Christian women who desire to make a difference in the world.

Look and Share

“Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ.  Who gave himself for us that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.  These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee” (Titus 2:13-15).

I think part of the reason we find ourselves feeling hopeless is we have lost the excitement connected with Christ’s return.  We’ve been so caught up in the cares of this life we can’t picture the joy that awaits us. Can you even imagine the thrill of meeting Christ face to face?  How will you react when you behold our blessed Redeemer in all His glory?

Nurture your excitement by sharing with others the hope and joy only Christ can give. Don’t allow anyone to put you down because you are trying to encourage others.

PRAY TOGETHER: Pray for renewed excitement concerning the coming of Christ and for greater spiritual motivation in this New Year.

Living in the Present (Part Two)

On a personal level, I am presently leading a Thursday afternoon Bible study at my church.  My years of writing devotionals have helped me dig deeper into the Word. This has been helpful as I work on preparing lessons. I pray my health won’t hinder me from anything I try to do for the Lord.

Most people aren’t aware that my daughter is battling stage four pancreatic and liver cancer.  Our Treasure studies this year, especially the ones this past fall, have helped me tremendously.  I still believe in miracles. I’m praying He has one for my daughter.

I continue to use writing as a ministry.  I send out monthly letters to members of my church who are shut-ins or who reside in nursing homes. I still write poetry which tends to inspire me first. After 40 years, I hope God will continue to use me to write for Him.

Dispel the Blues

“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God; for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God” (Psalm 42:11).

Happy New Year! The holidays are officially over and we’ve enjoyed them so much. It’s time to step back into our regular routines. We may feel a bit of a let down, but, it will pass. At this time of year, some may begin to suffer from “seasonal affective disorder.”  There is usually a serious mood change when the season changes. It can best be described as “having the winter blues.”  The writer of our verse gives a timely remedy for depression. “Hope thou in God.”   Count your blessings and give Him praise.  This will take the focus off your feelings of being “cast down.”  Finding much to be thankful for will help in chasing those blues away.

Living in the Present (Part One)

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  It’s a brand new year.  It’s a time to let go of the past and focus on today.  As all of us know, through the years, changes have been implemented in WNAC.  I think a real blessing was when single women were welcomed into its membership.  Another change was the new name for auxiliary, Women Active for Christ.

I remember when I could remember every missionary name and field.  Today I doubt I could do that.  However, the harvest is still great and laborers are few.

PRAY TOGETHER: On this New Year’s Day, pray and seek God’s guidance in setting new goals and obtaining greater vision for your personal walk with God. Pray the same for a missionary who comes to mind.

Our Hope Is in God

“And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee” (Psalm 39:7).

As we will soon enter a brand new year, let’s focus this week on hope.  We live in a time when we need to hold on to something sure and secure.  No matter what the new year holds for us, we can face uncertain days with hope that can only come from God. Look to Him and His Word for the precious promises you need to keep pressing on.  Life in comparison to eternity is brief. May we use whatever remaining time we have to serve the Lord, knowing He will soon return. Are we still excited about His coming?  As you hold on to hope, remember the words of the following chorus:

HEAVEN WILL SURELY BE WORTH IT ALL,
WORTH ALL THE SORROWS THAT HERE BEFALL
AFTER THIS LIFE WITH ALL ITS STRIFE,
HEAVEN WILL SURELY BE WORTH IT ALL

PRAY TOGETHER: Praise God for the many who’ve come to Christ this past year throughout the world and for His servants who’ve faithfully shared the gospel.

Year End

“May you receive more and more of God’s mercy, peace and love”  (Jude verse 3 NLT).

As the year comes to a close, it’s reassuring to know we have not exhausted God’s supplies.  As many times as we’ve called on His forgiveness, He is still able to grant us mercy for the new year. As often as we’ve sought out His peace amidst the storms, dark nights and trying times, His calm is available. As repeatedly as we’ve needed His love to wrap us, to comfort us, to show us He will take us back again, it still is in abundance.

The New Year holds great things in store for God’s children…especially the promise and possibility of receiving more and more of Him.
