Honey for Dessert

“How sweet are thy words unto my taste! Yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” (Psalm 119:103).

How wonderful it is to top off a meal with something sweet. Picture some hot bread and pouring a little honey over it.  That sounds like a great dessert.  How sweet is His Word to you?  Does it become sweeter as you feed on it?  Your answer to the last two questions may reflect the need for you to come to His table for a little dessert.  Feed on His Word and allow it to become as sweet as honey to you.

Next week we will look at another facet of “feeding our souls.”  Along with spiritual food, we need fellowship.

A Little More Fruit

“For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth” (Ephesians 5:9).

Come and let’s enjoy a piece of fruit. As we enjoy this succulent snack, let us be aware that  our walk and talk for Christ should match. Our lives are going to reflect the qualities in today’s verse. We should desire to not only eat fruit at His table, but, to take some with us so others can see the “fruit of the Spirit” in our lives.

Bread From Heaven

“This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man my eat thereof, and not die” (John 6:50).

If you remember when the Israelites wandered in the wilderness, God gave them something called manna—bread from Heaven. However, we know these people eventually died.  When Christ came to earth from Heaven, He proclaimed Himself as the Living Bread.  Whosoever partakes of this bread will never die.

How wonderful to know the bread at His table will keep us satisfied forever! I’m ready for some more. How about you?

The Veggies of Obedience

“As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance” (1 Peter 1:14).

Remember how your parents used to prod you to eat your vegetables.  There were probably some you really hated.  However, maybe wanting to please mom or dad,  you gave them a try.  In time you found these foods really weren’t so bad.

As you allow Him to feed your soul, you may encounter things you don’t like. Like those veggies, they may be hard to swallow.  You have changed and your tastes have changed. You are now a child of God. You will want to feed on His Word and be His obedient child. After a while, you’ll find doing this is enjoyable. So fill up your plate, and eat your veggies.

Drink In Some Joy

“These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full” (John 15:11).

Welcome back. Let’s prepare to enjoy some more spiritual food at God’s table.  You find you are no longer starving. Having Him feed you through His Word is something you are really enjoying.  You want more because you find it satisfying.  Maybe instead of milk this time, let’s drink another beverage.  This may lack creativity, but, I’d like to call this “joy juice.”  Everything written in the Bible is there for our benefit.  God wants us to experience joy even on this earth.  It is a foretaste of things to come.  Our joy will be complete when we feast with Him at the Marriage supper of the Lamb (Revelation 19:9).

If it has been a while since you felt joy in your soul, ask Him to fill your cup to overflowing.  Drink up and don’t waste a single drop.

Don’t Forget the Fruit

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law” (Galatians 5:22-23).

There is nothing more appealing than a bowl of delicious fruit on the table.

As we compare this mental picture with the fruit described in today’s passage, we see the bowl contains a nice variety.  Reach in and take as much as you want.  Each piece is full of spiritual nutrients.  As good as fruit may be for part of a meal, it’s even better as a snack. Fruit is available in endless supply, but don’t waste any of it.

This week we have only scratched the surface of the offerings on the table God has set for us.

Next week, let’s go back for seconds.  With physical food we must watch our portions. With spiritual food? Not so. Let’s grab our Bibles and prepare to go back to His table for more.  Bon appetit!

The Bread of Life

“And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger…” (John 6:35a).

I love bread!  I’m glad it’s also part of the spiritual diet. I’m even happier that Jesus is the Bread of Life.  For every stage of the Christian’s life, He knows exactly what to feed our souls so we “shall never hunger.”  As we stay in the Word and allow it to feed us, we will always find enough to satisfy our hunger.  Did you notice there is a condition that comes with the bread?

We must come to Him to receive it.  We must believe and come to His table.  Come and dine. There’s plenty, and you will never leave the table hungry.
