{"id":4140,"date":"2012-06-27T00:44:13","date_gmt":"2012-06-27T06:44:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wnac.org\/twg\/?p=4140"},"modified":"2012-06-08T18:57:59","modified_gmt":"2012-06-09T00:57:59","slug":"be-willing-to-forgive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wnac.org\/twg\/?p=4140","title":{"rendered":"Be Willing to Forgive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>\u201cFor if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you&#8221;\u00a0 (Matthew 6:14).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In reading the background of this verse,\u00a0I discovered the Jews were more about revenge than forgiveness.\u00a0 Knowing this, Jesus tried to help them resolve conflicts. He first told them (and us, today) the importance of forgiveness. He impressed on them (and us) that no matter what the offense in word or deed, we should find it in our hearts to forgive. Not only are we to forgive, but we must also forget.\u00a0 We must be willing to never bring up past trespasses again.\u00a0 A forgiving spirit will lead people toward Christ instead of away from Him.<\/p>\n<p>s this process easy?\u00a0 If it were, we would experience world peace. To encourage us to forgive others, Christ adds the second part of this verse.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a conditional promise. Wouldn&#8217;t it be nice if it just read, &#8220;God, in mercy, has forgiven you, so you should desire to forgive others.&#8221;\u00a0 However, God wants us to understand that if we forgive others, He stands continuously ready to forgive us.
