And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go show yourselves unto the priests.\u00a0 And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.\u00a0 And one of them,when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God.\u00a0\u00a0 And\u00a0 fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks; and he was a Samaritan.\u00a0 And Jesus answering said.\u00a0 Were there not ten cleansed?\u00a0 but where are the nine?\u00a0\u00a0 There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.\u00a0 And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole\u201d\u00a0 (Luke 17:12-19).<\/em><br \/>\nThe <em>Holman Bible Dictionar<\/em>y defines leprosy in this way. <em>(The definition itself may seem very gross to many, but, you will see why all ten lepers should have thanked God\u00a0 for their cleansing.)<\/em> \u201cA generic term applied to a variety of skin disorders from psoriasis to true leprosy.\u00a0 Its symptoms ranged from white patches on the skin to running sores to the loss of digits on the fingers and toes.\u00a0 For the Hebrews it was a dreaded malady which rendered its victims ceremonially unclean\u2014that is, unfit to worship God (Leviticus13:3).\u00a0 Anyone who came in contact with a leper was also considered unclean.\u00a0 Therefore, lepers were isolated\u00a0 from the rest of the community so that the members of the community could maintain their status as worshipers.\u00a0 Even houses and garments could have \u201cleprosy\u201d and, thus, be unclean.\u00a0\u00a0 Jesus did not consider this distinction between clean and unclean valid.\u00a0 A\u00a0 person&#8217;s outward condition did not make one unclean; rather that which proceeds from the heart determines one&#8217;s standing before God.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Christ saw the plight of 10 lepers.\u00a0 He told them what they needed to do.\u00a0 All 10 obeyed and were cleansed.\u00a0 However, only one of the 10 turned back to give thanks and praise for his healing.<\/p>\n<p>When Jesus told that grateful leper, \u201cgo thy way, thy faith hath made thee whole,&#8221;\u00a0 I imagine the grateful leper ran all the way home.<\/p>\n<p>Sue Winchester<br \/>\nMissouri<\/p>\n<p><strong>PRAY TOGETHER: <\/strong>Pray for missionaries Tim and Amanda York as they work with the deaf community in the Buffalo, New York, area and as they prepare for the upcoming birth of their second child.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cAnd as he entered\u00a0 into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off.\u00a0 And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.
