{"id":864,"date":"2009-02-24T00:53:07","date_gmt":"2009-02-24T06:53:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wnac.org\/twg\/?p=864"},"modified":"2009-02-23T08:54:35","modified_gmt":"2009-02-23T14:54:35","slug":"christ-our-kinsman-redeemer-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wnac.org\/twg\/?p=864","title":{"rendered":"Christ, Our Kinsman-Redeemer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\"><em>\u201cIn whom we have redemption through his blood, even for the forgiveness of sins\u201d<\/em> <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">(Colossians 1:14).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"mso-tab-count: 1;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">As I prepared the outline with titles and scriptures, as I usually do, I felt it fitting to insert today\u2019s devotion. Boaz was like a foreshadowing of Christ. Boaz was considered, under Jewish law to be a \u201cgoel\u201d and this was what Ruth needed for our story to have a happy ending. We needed more than a \u201cgoel\u201d or \u201ckinsman.\u201d We needed a \u201ckinsman-redeemer.\u201d Thanks to Him we will live happily ever after.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">J. Vernon McGee has written an excellent commentary about Ruth and also Esther. I would like to share what he says about a person being a \u201ckinsman-redeemer.\u201d There were five qualifications that needed to be met. As I list these, you will be able to see a portrait of Christ.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt 0.75in; text-indent: -0.25in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .75in;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\"><span style=\"mso-list: Ignore;\">1.<span style=\"font: 7pt &quot;Times New Roman&quot;;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">The redeemer must be a near kinsmen.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt 0.75in; text-indent: -0.25in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .75in;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\"><span style=\"mso-list: Ignore;\">2.<span style=\"font: 7pt &quot;Times New Roman&quot;;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">The redeemer must perform in willingness his work of redemption.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt 0.75in; text-indent: -0.25in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .75in;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\"><span style=\"mso-list: Ignore;\">3.<span style=\"font: 7pt &quot;Times New Roman&quot;;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">The redeemer must possess the ability to redeem.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt 0.25in; text-indent: -0.25in; mso-list: l1 level1 lfo2; tab-stops: list .25in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\"><span style=\"mso-list: Ignore;\"><span style=\"font: 7pt &quot;Times New Roman&quot;;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"mso-tab-count: 1;\"> <\/span>4.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>The redeemer must be free himself.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt 0.5in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">5.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>The redeemer must have the price of redemption.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u201cIn His humanity, Christ fulfilled the first two. In His deity He fulfilled the next two. And by becoming God-Man, He met the final requirement.\u201d Our redeemer was willing to pay the price for our souls to redeem us from the bondage of sin. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"mso-tab-count: 1;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">In the story of Ruth, Boaz would meet the requirements so everything would be legal. Christ met all qualifications but with a much deeper love than that of Ruth and Boaz. He paid the highest price for our redemption as He gave His life\u2019s blood on a cruel cross.
