The Widows
I Timothy 5:3 “Honor widows that are widows indeed.â€
Today I was looking for a Mother’s Day gift in the Bible Book Store. I was gabbing with the owner, and she told me about a ministry their woman’s group has for the widows of their church. A widow is selected or assigned to a woman of the group. The woman is in charge of this special lady throughout the year. It is almost like secret sisters without the secret. Women provide widows reading material and gospel music tapes. They run errands, take them to the store or out to lunch, clean their houses and offer other such services and gifts. At Christmas, the widows are treated to a banquet especially for them—a beautiful meal complete with fine china and tableware. Every widow is presented a very nice gift and treated so very special. The owner of the store said; “I’ve had [my special lady] for seven years, and I wouldn’t trade anything for the experience.â€
