Israel and God’s Light of Mercy

“Yet thou in thy manifold mercies forsookest them not in the wilderness: the pillar of the cloud departed not from them by day, to lead them in the way; neither the pillar of fire by night, to shew them light, and the way wherein they should go” (Nehemiah 9:19).

The verses for yesterday and today are there as monuments of God’s mercy. God could have forsaken Israel and shut off His light. But a loving God kept His light on for His people.

Oh, how we need God to keep things in our remembrance—to remind us of all he has brought us through. As we walk in the light of God’s love, He patiently leaves the light on to guide us, so we won’t wander off into darkness.
