Weapon of Deceit

“Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall  ye touch it, lest ye die.  And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not  surely die” (Genesis 3:1-4).

Our last week of this month’s study is entitled “Enemy Weapons.”  We must not only be able to identify the Enemy, the battle and the battlefield, but we must be able to recognize what he uses to defeat us.  One of the devil’s weapons is deceit.  Satan specializes in distorting the truth. Reading today’s verses, we see a picture of how Satan twisted God’s words. This led to the fall of Adam and Eve in the garden.  He deceived them into accepting his lies, which he subtly made them believe as truth.

If we are not careful, the devil will use this weapon on us.  If he can confuse us and make us doubt the truths of God, he wins. We can fight back with one of our own weapons.

That weapon is prayer. Today begins our PreEaster Week of Prayer. Let us use the weapon of prayer as we intercede in behalf of those who are serving God around the world. Pray for the fields and requests, knowing God’s Mighty Hand works through prayer.

For my closing thought today I chose the following:

Away in foreign fields, they wondered how
Their simple word had power –
At home, some Christians, two or three, had met
To pray an hour.
We are always wondering- wondering how,
Because we do not see
Someone – perhaps unknown and far away –
On bended knee. – Unknown

PRAY TOGETHER: Pray today for these areas of missions ministry.
France — Ten years ago, Dennis and Carol Teague and a group of
volunteers from the States started a conference for teenagers. They
called it Jcrois, French slang for “I believe it.” The event was established
to encourage and equip students to stand firm in their faith.
Although the conference is for Christians, several students have
given their hearts to the Lord as a result of attending. Numerous
other spiritual commitments are made every year. This year marks
the 10th anniversary of Jcrois. Pray for the hearts of students who
will attend and for the missionaries who will plan and carry out the
conference. Several of the volunteers who were instrumental in the
first conference will return to France to join the celebration. Please
pray for safe travels for them.
Single Missionaries — Currently, five single women serve overseas:
Cathy Crawford and Patsy Vanhook in France, Mirial Gainer
and Shannon Little in Japan, and Molly Barker in Uruguay. Ask God
to provide their every need—physically, emotionally, financially, and
spiritually. Pray for safety and the ability to resist temptation. Pray
for wisdom as they build friendships and clarity as they share the
gospel.
