“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (Philippians 4:13).
I recently led a Bible study on the book of Philippians. There is so much packed into four chapters. Though I could pick out several favorites verses, today’s passage is definitely in my top ten.
I love John MacArthur’s comments about today’s Scripture. “I Can Do All Things: This means to “be strong,” “to have power” or “to have resources.” The Greek text emphasizes “all things” by placing it first in the sentence. Paul was strong enough to endure anything through Christ’s strength. The apostle did not, of course, mean that he could physically survive indefinitely without food, water, sleep or shelter. What he was saying is that when he reached the limits of his resources and strength, even to the point of death, he was infused with the strength of Christ. He could overcome the most dire physical difficulties because of the inner, spiritual strength God had given him.”
It is wonderful to know God sustains us when we pray for the kind of strength only He can provide. In closing this week, may we realize how vital prayer is as part of our “War Strategy.” With our armor on and the weapons of the Word and prayer, we CAN defeat the Enemy.
