A False Promise

“While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage” (2 Peter 2:19).

The NIV Study Bible looks at today’s verse in this manner: “They (false teachers) promise them (new converts) freedom. Probably freedom from moral restraint. The very ones who promise freedom from bondage to rules and regulations are themselves slaves of depravity.  Freedom from law resulted in bondage to sin, and liberty was turned into license.” Don’t be deceived by believing those the devil uses to spread his lies.  Only through Christ, the One who promises are always true, can we find true freedom (John 8:32).
