Path Director

“In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:6).

We are admonished in this verse to be ever mindful of God and serve Him faithfully.

He will be our guiding light, directing our steps. He stands ready to be our “path director”, smoothing out the bumps in the road we may encounter.

Allow Him to help you choose the right path for you.

Seeing Him With New Eyes

” And Jesus answered, Why are you afraid?  You have so little faith!  Then he stood up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly all was calm.  The disciples just sat there in awe.  Who is this? they asked themselves.  Even the wind and waves obey him” (Matthew 8:26-27 NLT).

The same Jesus they had been traveling with day in and day out.  The same Jesus they had watched heal broken people.  The same Jesus they had listened to and trusted.

And this day He amazed them.

Will He do the same for you today?

We have seen Him work.  We have felt His power.  We have watched in awe and admiration as His plans, His timing and His ways were played out perfectly amidst a conflict.  We have heard the testimonies.  We have read the books.  We have listened to the sermons.  We have experienced His cleansing power…

But none of us know Him to the fullest extent still.

My prayer for today is that He do something in our lives that leave us breathless, amazed, in awe–and wanting more!

Comfort

“For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord.  They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope”  (Jeremiah 29:11 NLT).

Just what I needed today, a little dose of comfort.  Oh, I’ve known the verse for years, it’s nothing new.  I’ve quoted it to friends and jotted it down in several cards, but today?  Today it takes on new meaning.

He knows.  He has plans for me, good plans.  He intends for me to prosper and enjoy life.  That is a comfort.

The world is not out to make sure I succeed.  Friends, as loving as they are, are too busy with life to attend to my needs.  Even my loved ones, well, their hands are tied when it comes to doing anything regarding the plans for my life.

But He knows. He knows how the threads of my past weave into a tapestry of today, how my experiences, good and bad, will allow me to testify of His greatness to another.

He knows the outcome of today.  My worries do not affect Him, or what He will be doing to prove He is Lord.  Where I am does not limit His abilities or tie His hands.

He knows what tomorrow holds.  Not what I have planned, but what will truly be and what will be best for me.

He knows.  That wraps around me like my favorite, well-worn sweatshirt….My God knows.

Peace in Loving the Word

“Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them” (Psalm 119:165).

If you love the Word and your life radiates His guiding light, you will have great peace. Even when trials beset you, you can find a peace, the world cannot offer.  Often times we allow problems and stress to cloud His Light.  This leads to turmoil and depression  which only compounds our circumstances.  Jesus lovingly offers peace and rest but He needs to find the previously mentioned “entrance” to insert the light we need in good times and bad.

Remaining in the Word and experiencing the peace that defies understanding helps us shake off anything Satan tosses our way. We can face life confidently knowing His Light is there to protect us.

Light for Our Steps

“Order my steps in thy word and let not any iniquity have dominion over me” (Psalm 119:133).

The words of this verse should be one of our prayers each day. We are in a daily battle with the forces of darkness. If  we don’t seek God’s guidance through the light of  His Word, they will gain control or dominion over us.  I remember an old gospel song that contained these words: “I want to walk just as close as I can.”  With God’s Word in focus, and those words in mind, we are not likely to be overcome with evil.

Light Dispels Darkness

“The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple”(Psalm 119:130).

In his Treasury of David Bible Commentary, Charles Spurgeon wrote: “The entrance of thy words giveth light.  No sooner do they gain admission into the soul then they enlighten it: what light may be expected from their prolonged indwelling! Their very entrance floods the mind with instruction for they are so full, so clear; but, on the other hand, there must be such an ‘entrance,’ or there will be no illumination.”

It’s that illumination that gives understanding to unlock what might seem to be mysteries of the truth.  Many things might clutter our minds to block His light’s entrance.  Rid yourself of those things and let the sun (Son) shine in.

A Lamp and Light

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my  path” (Psalm 119:105).

Today’s verse contains a wonderful example of God’s guiding light.

Matthew Henry sums up this verse like this: “The word of God directs us in our work and way, and a dark place indeed the world would be without it.  The commandment is a lamp kept burning with the oil of the Spirit, as a light to direct us in the choice of our way, and the steps we take in that way.”

When we pray as Jesus prayed, “Not my will,” He will surround us with His light.  He knows we will encounter snares along life’s way.  Draw ever closer to Him.  He’ll leave His Light on for you.
