A Mothers Heart

John 19:25a
“Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother…”

In a day when it was not safe for Christians to be seen, a sweet grieving mother was there at the foot of her son’s cross. Her son, whose precious, redeeming blood was shed for all mankind, lay down His life freely. She was there, weeping and agonizing over her son’s impending death. She was there despite her fears and dread in the midst of her son’s enemies. She was there when they lifted his lifeless body off the cross. She was there, even though she had gone through a heartbreaking day, just to be with her son, Jesus. She was there because of a mother’s heart.

Butterflies

Ephesians 4:32
“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”

Some years ago, as I traveled with my husband on business trips, we were in Branson, Missouri. We visited a butterfly sanctuary. The butterflies were beautiful—all colors and sizes. They flew all over and some would even land on me. They were so fragile and could have been easily destroyed. We were cautioned to be very careful.

New converts and troubled Christians are fragile. If we are not cautious of them we could destroy their Christianity. Let’s help them grow into beautiful individuals who will live their lives for the glory of God.

Mother-In-Law

Ruth 3:1
“Then Naomi her mother-in-law said unto her, my daughter, shall I not seek rest for thee, that it may be well with thee?”

I have an awesome mother-in-law. She is a kind sweet woman who, with gentle hand, raised the man I love—a good woman who was a excellent example of a godly wife. She is the spiritual mother who raised her children in the Lord’s love and in church. She is a beautiful and caretaking woman in our children’s lives and now in her great-grandchildren’s lives. A lovely woman I am so thankful to have in my life.

The Mirror

James 1:23b

“…he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:”

How often have we dressed to go somewhere only to find a button gone, a spot or a tear? Sometimes a good look in the mirror can make a big difference in our appearance.

Occasionally,we need to look in our Christian mirror and check out our life. Is there an attitude that needs to be sewn back or an offense that needs to be washed away? What we look like in this spiritual mirror is how we look in the eyes of the world.

Stay In The Lines

Ephesians 5:15

“See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise.”

When we lay down a coloring book and crayons for little ones, what is the first thing we tell them? Stay in the lines. Sometimes they will not watch but scribble all over the lines.

Often we as Christians do not watch the lines. Rather we cross the lines the Lord has laid down for us. God wants us to walk watchfully and cautiously. The Lord wants our Christian lives to be a beautiful picture, so others can see how beautiful Christ is.

Choices

Joshua 24:15b

“…Choose you this day whom ye will serve…”

All of us are confronted with choices every day of our lives. We choose what we wear, what we eat and where we will live. . We choose our spouses and our friends. We make many, many choices, Even a game show gave folks the opportunity to choose money or door #2. Our lives are filled with choices. At times it can be difficult to choose.

The greatest choice we will ever make is to accept the Lord as the Savior of our lives. Choose the Lord! Choose to live for Him! Choose to tell the lost of His love for them!

The Blanket

II Corinthians 9:7

“Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give, not grudgingly, or of necessity; for God loveth a cheerful giver.”

Five years ago my mother and I offered help to our friends, driving them across Knoxville to the Cancer Center. When we arrived, the wife escorted her husband back to where he would receive chemo. Mom and I brought needlework and sometimes a book. We sat near the door to help those in wheelchairs.

One day I opened the door for a gentleman who was pushing his mother to their car. She motioned me over to her window and asked if I were a Christian. I assured her that I was, and she ask if I would pray for her. When I said amen and opened my eyes, she was shaking because she was so cold. Mom and I looked at each other and agreed, “Let’s give her a blanket.” We had a couple of textile knitted blankets in the trunk of the car. I opened the trunk and retrieved this sweet lady a blanket. They thanked us, and the son started the motor and rolled the windows up. Then he got out of the car and said, “We got bad news today. Mom only has few weeks to live. Do you want your blanket back?”

“No,” I answered. “You keep her as warm as you can with her new blanket.” He cried and hugged me.

The Lord gives to us freely and happily. He wants us to be cheerful givers, too.
