I Love You So Much I Could Die

In John 15:13, Jesus said, “Greater love hath no man than he lay down his life for another.” He also admonished us to love not only our neighbors but also our enemies. How much more important, then, for a married couple to love each another enough to take the proverbial bullet for the other? Of course, the society in which we live doesn’t normally call on husbands to die in their wives’ stead, but scripturally speaking, they should be willing.

HOW DO YOU RELATE?

Read Ephesians 5:25. Consider what feelings could cause someone to selflessly die for another. Now read Luke 24:44-49. How is Christ’s love a perfect example of sacrificial love? In your notebook, make a list of all of the things you love about this world (i.e., money, possessions) and then look at John 12:25. Pray for God to reveal to you how you can come to “despise this world” and, in the process, gain a greater understanding of eternal things so you may more readily move toward a life willing to sacrifice it all for the cause.
