Family Ties

You may be the life of the party or the queen of the hill to the outside world, but the people who live with you know the “real” you, for better or worse. Often we treat the very people we most love with the least respect. In order to most effectively serve Christ, we must concentrate on being a better witness at home than anywhere else by controlling our tongues, our tempers and our tendencies.

HOW DO YOU RELATE?

Read Ephesians 4:17-5:20. We are not to stumble around in the same darkness from whence we came, but rather we are to be in constant renewal of our thoughts and attitudes. In your notebook, write what you erroneously perceived would happen to you when you accepted Christ (i.e., you automatically lost all of your sinful ways, your old habits died immediately) and what actually took place from that day forward. Ask your family to describe ways you show Christ’s light and ways you continue to hide your light under a basket. Write down their statements and ask them to join you in prayer for a Spirit-led permanent change.
