The Least of These

“Then the King will say to those on the right, Come you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.  For I was hungry, and you fed me.  I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink.  I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home.  I was naked, and you gave me clothing.  I was sick, and you cared for me.  I was in prison, and you visited me.  Then the righteous will reply, Lord when did we ever see you hungry or feed you?  Or thirsty and gave you something to drink?  Or a stranger and show you hospitality?  Or naked and gave you clothing?  When did we ever see you sick or in prison, and visit you?  And the King will tell them, I assure you, when you did it to one of the least of these my brethren and sisters, you were doing it to me”  (Matthew 25:34:40 NLT)

The least of these, Lord?

Not the pastor?  Not the senior saint I helped from the car to the church house doors?  Not the regular attender who needed a get well card, and I sent it?

You’re referring to the others I meet each day, aren’t you?  The inconsiderate teenager at the convenience store?  The unpleasant customer I was forced to wait on?  The sharp-tongued elderly woman in front of me at the grocery store?  Was it the young man who has just returned from prison, the one I was afraid to speak to?

I’m going to look harder, Lord, for the least of these—my brothers and sisters.  I’m going to attempt to feed more hungering, give a drink to those thirsting, clothes, soothe and welcome those needing to see you in this dark, ugly world.

Why?  Well, to be quite honest, it’s because I want all you have in store for me, every single blessing.
