Making Changes

“But I will call on God, and the Lord will rescue me. Morning, noon and night I plead aloud in my distress, and the Lord hears my voice. He rescues me and keeps me safe from the battle waged against me, even though many still oppose me. God, who is king forever, will hear me and will humble them…” (Psalm 55:16-19 NLT).

Appropriate verse for me this week. You see, I’m setting about to make some big changes in my life. A very, dear friend and I are embarking on a journey towards prayerfulness. We’re determined to become prayer warriors. We have made a commitment to make prayer an important place in our life. We’re going to pray more.

I can’t speak for her, but in my own mind it’s less about the hours some may commit to actual knee time and more about attitude. I know I need to pray more. I’m fully aware of those around me who need me to pray more. I’m privvy to the knowledge that prayer is a tenant of the Christian faith–and honor, really. It’s just, well, it’s just…

…things get in the way.
…the day slips by and He’s not heard from me.
…problems arise that I must attack head on, instead of talking to my Father.
…I really don’t want to bother Him with things He has enabled me to handle on my own.
…the idea of committing to prayer seems ever so saintly, and well, you know me.
…what if I do it wrong?
…and truthfully, doesn’t He know already?

I know, I know, pitiful excuses. But you’ve used them, too, haven’t you?

Well, no more. He’s going to hear from me more often. I’m going to listen for His voice more intently. From this point on, I will spend more time in prayer.

Want to join me in this huge change?
