Utter Amazement

“Do you know how God controls the storm and causes the lightning to flash forth from his clouds?  Do you understand how he balances the clouds with wonderful perfection and skill?  When you are sweltering in your clothes and the south wind dies down and everything is still, he makes the skies reflect the heat like a giant mirror.  Can you do that?”  (Job 37:15-18).

Can you tell me the last time you were caught off guard by something utterly amazing?  When you were stopped in your shoes because your jaw hit the floor with awe?  How long has it been since you wondered about the simplest of things?

Was it when you were a child?  Was it the last time you laid in the grass watching the clouds?  Picked petal after petal from a flower?  Watched an ant crawl from its home across the sidewalk and back?

I’m on a mission to look for the amazing things God has placed all around me.  I’m determined to see what He’s made in the clouds, to ponder how He formed a flower, to stop for a moment or two and watch a bird building a nest.  I’m going to watch my little boy sleeping, even if it runs us off schedule for a moment or two.  I’m going to stand for a while in the newly tilled ground before I begin planting the garden—just to feel the dirt between my toes.  I’m going to sit in the swing and feel the breeze on my face, just to be sitting.

You, and I, are never too old to be amazed.  Too busy perhaps, but never too old.
