Drawing a Comparison

“Charity suffereth long and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up.  Doth not behave itself unseemingly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth”  (1 Corinthians 13:4-6).

Our verses contrast what love is and what it is not.  Matthew Henry states “Charity is an utter enemy to selfishness; it does not desire or seek its own praise, or profit, or pleasure.”  I found the following statements in an old Living Bible: “Love does not demand its own way. It is not irritable or touchy. It is never glad about injustice , but rejoices whenever truth wins out.”

We often struggle with the negative traits of love.  Let the love of God light your way to overcoming the things love is not.
