Build an Altar

“And the Lord appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land; and there builded he an altar unto the Lord, who appeared unto him” (Genesis 12:7).

Many times in the Old Testament you read of people who felt the need to build an altar after God had appeared to them. Abraham was no exception. After he received the promises of God, he built an altar. It was a place of praise, thanksgiving, and sweet communion. It was a place where, when he finished praying, there was no doubt he had truly been with God. He probably built several as he journeyed under God’s direction.

Whether you call it your “prayer closet” or a quiet place you can meet with God, you are building an altar. It is that special and private place that when you use it, you will feel you’ve been with Jesus.
