Go Home to Your Friends

“And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him. Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee” (Mark 5:18-19).

Most of us are familiar with the story of Legion. He was a man possessed of an unclean spirit.  Most people feared him because he couldn’t be bound, not even in chains. He lived a miserable existence among the tombs. However, one day he saw Jesus and ran to worship Him.

Jesus had compassion upon him and told the spirit to come out of him. The many devils were transferred into a herd of swine which were choked in the sea. God had worked a miracle in Legion’s life.  It changed his life forever. He wanted to spend time with Jesus, but, Jesus told him to back home and share his story with his friends. I can only imagine how excited Legion was to share his testimony with those who once feared him. He could return now to a normal life thanks to the compassion of a loving Savior who saw him and heard his cries.
