Jonah Obeys

“So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord” (Jonah 3:3a).

Jonah may not have listened the first time, but he decided this time to trust and obey God. The only thing that had changed about the Nineveh situation was Jonah decided to go there instead of running away again.

Sometimes God has to use various means to adjust our attitude. It seemed Jonah had his changed. However, as we go further into the study of the book of Jonah, we see Jonah was still a work in progress. At least he was willing to obey God which was an improvement from the first time God commanded him to go to Nineveh.

We can avoid a lot of drama if God calls us to go and we obey His command. I’m sure many of our missionaries today may have been reluctant, at first, to go where God would lead. Strange lands, people, and language could have presented an overwhelming challenge. When you look at maps of all the areas, at home and abroad, where our missionaries are serving, you can’t help but respect the fact they have willingly trusted and obeyed God.
