God’s Mercy Upon Ninevah

“And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that He had said that He would do unto them, and He did it not” (Jonah 3:10).

At the beginning of the book of Jonah we find Jonah had some misgivings about Nineveh. He didn’t want to go to that evil city and ran from God. By the time God was finished with Jonah, the hearts of the people of Nineveh were ready to hear Jonah’s message. Jonah never dreamed his obedience to God would result in Revival.

God saw the sincerity of the people and knew what they were doing wasn’t just talk. God had compassion on Nineveh and decided not to destroy the city. What rejoicing there must have been to know God had saved their lives!

America is in dire need of revival, one like Nineveh experienced. We must pray for our once Christian nation that they will heed the words found in 2 Chronicles 7:14, “If My people, which are called by My name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
