Revival in Ninevah

“So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest to the least of them” ( Jonah 3:5).

Much to Jonah’s surprise, Revival broke out in Nineveh. The people got rid of all their evil things. That could be likened to when the sailors tossed over the sides all the things they thought would keep the ship from sinking. This was when Jonah was on board the ship going to Tarshish and the sailors had to throw Jonah overboard. The people of Nineveh begged God to forgive them.

When the news of the day came to the palace of the king, the king wasn’t angry. He tore off his royal robe and joined his people wearing sackcloth. He went from king to being like a poor beggar. The king declared a fast and all of Nineveh sat in sackcloth and covered themselves with ashes. He believed that if they turned from their sin, God would extend mercy and they would be spared from destruction. Tomorrow we will see God’s response to their repentance.
