Only Believe

“Then said they unto Him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on Him whom He hath sent” (John 6:28-29).

We may have, at some point, asked the question found in verse 28. In asking, we may have felt foolish when we got our answer. There is nothing we can do outside of our faith in Jesus. If we think our pious works can earn us eternal life, we are fooling ourselves. Eternal life is dependent only on the faith we must have to accept God’s amazing, matchless grace.

People remain lost in their sins because they think works will save them. We must enlighten them with scriptures like Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Reach out to others with the free gift of eternal life which only comes through the grace of God. You already have learned to only believe. It goes back to Monday’s devotion of “receive and believe.” Share the simplicity of that with those who may look to you to light their way.
