He Finished what He Started

“I have glorified Thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest Me to do” (John 17:4).

I’m not proud to say I have left many projects I have started unfinished. Partially or even half done is never complete. Though I am a list person, I don’t always prioritize my tasks.

I’m thankful Jesus was not like me about what He needed to do. He knew what He must do and, as we mentioned yesterday, He finished the work He started. Salvation’s plan was completed by His life, death, and resurrection. Yes, He could have called legions of angels to free Him from the Cross, but “He died alone for you and me.” He died in our place that the gift of eternal life could be ours.

Our mission is to glorify God on earth. Are we doing our best for the One who gave His best for us? Is His work part of our priorities? We must be good stewards of our time and talents before His return. A world in the darkness of sin is depending on the light you show forth in service to God. When it comes to the work of the Lord, finish what you start.
