The Holy Spirit – A Dove

“And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven which said, Thou art my beloved Son, in thee I am well pleased” (Luke 3:22).

This week we will look at symbols of the Holy Spirit. In today’s verse we see the symbol of the “dove.” Feeling so unworthy, John the Baptist was reluctant to baptize Jesus. Jesus convinced John the Baptist it would be the right thing to do and scripture tells us Jesus was baptized. As soon as Jesus came out of the water, we see the dove appear as the heavens open. God used the dove to tell His Son how very proud He was of Him.

Once we are saved, we should desire to be baptized, following the example of Jesus. We may not see a dove appear but that same Holy Spirit will be there assuring us of how pleased God is with us.
