Breaking the Covenant

“And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her, and he did eat” (Genesis 3:6).

We might say Adam and Eve had it made. They lived in a paradise and wanted for nothing. The three elements of temptation back in the Garden of Eden were there for Eve. Satan continues to use them to cause us to sin against God. The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life will always draw us away from God. We often shake our head and wonder how Adam and Eve could trade their perfect world for some fruit. We have all been guilty, at times, for making some bad trades in our lives so we can’t point fingers. However, by Adam and Eve’s disobedience the “Edenic” covenant was broken. Tomorrow we will see the consequences they were forced to face.
