“And David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in unto her, and lay with her: and she bare a son, and he called his name Solomon: and the Lord loved him” (2 Samuel 12:24).
Please note there was a gap of time before our verse took place. Marriages often collapse after the death of a child. There are many emotional issues involved. God was working to restore David and Bathsheba spiritually. In the process, He restored their marriage. This doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, patience, and work. Unfortunately, some couples give up too soon and the end result is divorce. God was preparing David and Bathsheba to be parents again. In my opinion, I think this was the time Bathsheba restored her fellowship with God. Some commentaries feel Solomon wrote Proverbs 31 with her in mind. If this indeed is true, then God definitely was evident in her life. David had many wives, but, Bathsheba was his favorite. He doesn’t seem to hesitate to honor any request she makes of him. She had to be a little devious to make sure Solomon would be David’s successor as king. We will learn a little more about this tomorrow.
