Bathsheba – Queen Mother

“Bathsheba therefore went unto king Solomon, to speak unto him for Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her, and bowed himself unto her, and sat down on his throne, and caused a seat to be set for the king’s mother; and she sat on his right hand” (1 Kings 2:19).

David is quite old now and Adonijah was serving as king. Did Bathsheba take that lightly? No way. Bathsheba went to David and “reminded” him of a promise he made about making Solomon the king. Whether he actually made that promise is unsure, but Bathsheba took advantage of this situation. It was going to be God’s Will that Solomon become king. Bathsheba may not have understood the concept of how God uses imperfect people to execute His perfect plan, but, God’s Will was going to be done. Solomon deeply loved his mother. Bathsheba was shrewd enough to look out for herself and her son. The end result of her political intrigue was she got to share in the power as Queen Mother at the right hand of Solomon.
