Women in One Accord

“These all continued in one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary, the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren” (Acts 1:14).

Wouldn’t you have liked to been at that prayer meeting? Jesus had ascended. The disciples, who would now be known as apostles, and a group of faithful women followers met together in an upper room for prayer. Notice Mary, the mother of Jesus was there along with His brethren. They were there in one accord, remembering the last words of Jesus as He went to be with His Father. God honored their prayers when the promised Holy Spirit came down and “filled the house” (Acts 2:2).

Ladies, come together in one accord. Even if you feel you are few in number, God has promised to meet with you. (Matthew 18:20) How long has it been since you stayed on your knees until you felt the very presence of God? In Acts 2:1-4, we see the results of praying through until the Spirit comes down. Men and women as well witnessed the power of God. Our nation is in dire need of revival. Let us pray in one accord for this to happen.

Messengers to the Disciples

“It was Mary Magdalene and Joanna, and Mary, the mother of James, and other women that were with them which told these things unto the apostles” (Luke 24:10).

As was mentioned in yesterday’s devotion, women found the empty tomb. Though it might not have registered, at first, news like that just had to be shared! They left to tell the disciples of their marvelous discovery. The disciples were a little skeptical so they went to see if this was indeed true. They were surprised that the news was not “idle tales” (Luke 24:11).

Women, you have a message of hope to share with a lost world. Some may not believe it, but those who will embrace it will never be the same! Be willing to be God’s messenger.

Finding the Empty Tomb

“Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre” (Luke 24:1-2).

We see in today’s verses women in action joined together by a common bond. They shared in their grief and devotion to God. I can picture them making the long walk to the tomb probably right before dawn carrying their prepared spices filled with sorrow. I also envision women with mixed feelings as they first beheld the empty tomb. They had banded together for a common purpose. Their efforts were rewarded when they realized He had risen. The tears of grief turned into tears of joy!

How would you describe your group of women? Are they caring, sharing, and meeting together for the purpose of furthering the good news of the gospel? Be willing to extend the message of a risen Savior.

SERVING WITHOUT FEAR

“And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid” (Luke 23:55).

During and right after the crucifixion, women stayed loyal to Christ. They were not afraid to be seen as followers of Christ. The disciples were pretty much scattered for fear of their own lives. The women at the cross did not exhibit fear—only faith and grief. They stayed clear-headed so they could remember where to find Jesus’ tomb and bring some more burial spices the next day.
Jesus looks to women today, to continue to take a stand for Him. It may not be the most popular thing to do, but our loyalty to Christ must remain steadfast.

“And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven demons. And Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered to him out of their substance” (Luke 8:2-3).

Jesus had great respect for women. It was evident in the gospels. Once saved, women were there to serve and minister unto Him. He used them because they were there. He could count on them. He showed them they could make a difference as they contributed what they had for His glory. They were no threat to the religious leaders of the day. They might not have had much education, but they were teachable. Jesus was able to teach them the truth of His Word.

We, as women, need a sense of belonging, self-worth and being competent. You will find all that when you trust Christ to equip you to make a difference in your world.
