If Only

1 John 1:9

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

God has promised to forgive and cleanse us from the very thing that will destroy our lives and separate us from God. Through the blessed blood of Jesus, we can confess our sins and He forgives us. Praise the Lord for this if.

1 Corinthians 8:3

“But if any man love God, the same is known of him.”

This is a very strong verse. I’ve heard it said; “If only I could make a difference.” In the self same way our lives were changed by God’s love, we can make a difference in the lives of others by our love for God. Let’s work on our love for God making it strong and true so we can be known of Him.

Matthew 6:30

“Wherefore if God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall He not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?”

Every pastor’s wife will understand this. Often in our ministry we have had needs: food, clothes, power payment, etc. God in His wonderful way has always provided our needs. I would get concerned because things were not happening in my time frame, but in perfect time God took care of us. I look back, see God’s provision, and love Him more for all He has done for our family. I am not alone in this and I know that God has provided for you too, over and over again.

Psalm 139:8,9,10

“If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold thou art there. If I take up wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.”

While we were in Nashville, my husband went to college during the day and worked at night. When he came home at 1:00 a.m., we would sit in the floor and try to get our first son to walk. As our son hobbled my husband often would hold out his hand so our son could latch on for security. This reminds me of the times God has held out His hand for me. Sisters, no matter what the circumstances or where you are in life, His hand is always there for you.

II Chronicles 7:14

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sins, and will heal their land.”

We indeed have filled our lives with “if only” and cause ourselves to carry unnecessary baggage through our Christian journey. This weight hinders our life and potential.

Several weeks ago I carried my groceries from the car to my kitchen. My last trip I carried a 20 lb. bag of dog food and two 10 lb. bags of potatoes. When I finally got to the last step I said, “Whew, I am so glad I don’t have to carry that around all day.” Dear Sisters, when we carry around regrets and “if only” we are affected by it’s heavy weight. The Lord is waiting on us to let Him take our weights and shackles from us. Today let us “humble ourselves, and pray, and seek His face” and enjoy the awesome no baggage walk we will have with Him.

Pastor Appreciation

Ephesians 4:11
“And he gave some apostles; and some, prophets; and some evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers.”

Have you ever noticed how busy your pastor is? He preaches, he teaches, he conducts revivals, sometimes he sings, he works in VBS, he counsels, he may be a youth worker and so, so much more. The Lord blesses us with the pastor that He prepares and calls for our church. Thank you, pastor, for all you do for us.

Bless you, pastor, for your willingness to work.

A Quiet Life

Jesus’ life was one of quietness. Even though He was busy, it was not the busy, busy and hurry, hurry of our day. He offers us this quiet. In fact, a meek and quiet spirit is in the sight of God of great price. He says in Isaiah that His people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places.

Often we miss out on what God is trying to tell us when we are rushing around being busy for Him. We are so rushed doing things we deem necessary for Him that we don’t sit quietly with Him. We should rather sit quietly and rest in the comfort of the Holy Spirit than be rushing around heading up this or that program. There are times when we must hurry, but it doesn’t accomplish what God intended if we have not first soaked our souls with the quietness of His loving presence.

“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth” (Psalm 46:10).
