Skeletal Remains (Day Five)

1 Peter 4:8

“And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves, for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.”

Do we have skeletons in our closets? Sure, but we are working on lessening the hold these old bones have on us. How beautiful are the Scriptures that show us the love Christ had for us–that He shed His blood to cover our sins. It is our obligation as Christians, who have received this gift, to show others this awesome love through our lives. The one thing that has hindered the cause of Christ is our lack of love for each other and sinners. Today let us cover a multitude of sins by exercising our love.

Skeletal Remains (Day Four)

1 Timothy 5:22

“Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partakers of other men’s sins; keep thyself pure.”

Do we have skeletons in our closets? Yes, but we are gaining more power over these things and will have more control over temptation, sin and Satan. When I was growing up, who I was with was important to my parents. It is so important that we avoid evil companions. If the Lord leads you to witness to a sinner, do so on your Christian ground. Many good Christians are trapped by Satan with a dirty joke, an immoral story, unladylike language or being in the midst of company whose intentions are not of the Lord. We must live in a sinful world but we do not have to partake of it. Today let us choose carefully our companions and always remember to keep ourselves pure.

Skeletal Remains (Day Three)

Romans 8:1,2

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.”

Do we have skeletons in our closet? Sure we do, but God has given us many weapons to fight temptation, sin and Satan. We can strengthen our Christian lives against these things in our closets. My sons all hike, camp, climb, repel, dive and other things that may appear unsafe. My husband and I have taught them to always stay in the perimeter of safety. He oversaw their activities with caution, structure and guidance.

The Holy Spirit is a special gift to us. A perpetual teacher, guide and warning system. He will never guide us in the wrong paths, so if we “walk after the Spirit,” He will always lead us into the truth. Our defensive plan today is to walk after the Spirit.

Skeletal Remains (Day Two)

Psalm 119:11

“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”

Do we have skeletons in our closet? Sure we do, but we are in the process of getting rid of those things that lurk in our closets and we are building a fortress to help us restrain ourselves from those things that cause us weakness in our Christian life. If we want to cook something really yummy we get a recipe book out. Often times after using the same recipe over and over we soon memorize it. When we read the Scriptures over and over and apply the wisdom to our lives, it gets easier to resist temptation, sin and Satan. Today’s defense is to hide God’s Word in our heart.

Skeletal Remains (Day One)

John 5:14
“Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, behold thou art made whole; sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.”

Do we have skeletons in our closet? Sure we do, because we have all sinned. This week let’s start dismantling these skeletons and build a defense against temptation, sin and Satan. A great Scripture to start with is Revelation 1:5. “And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood.”
Today, if there is any sin in our hearts, let us go before the Father and ask Him to forgive us of those sins, then let us experience the clean refreshing feeling of being washed in the blood—a significant start to getting rid of those skeletons in our closets.

Pastor Appreciation

Numbers 27:16
“Let the Lord, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation.”

Pastors are God’s plan for leading and guiding His congregation of believers. Sometimes we are like sheep who wander from the fold and must be led back to the flock by a tender, loving pastor. Stand behind your pastor with your prayers and support as he leaves the ninety and nine for the one. That’s how important the lost or straying are to God—that He should send the shepherd out for this one.

Bless you, pastor, for reaching out to the lost.

Trip Journal

I Corinthians 15:54
“So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, death is swallowed up in victory.”

Dear Journal:
This is part of the journey that is sad for me.  I lost my dad today.  Even though I cry and hold my grown children as they sob for their Paw Paw, I know where dad has gone.  His Christian journey is over and is now in heaven.  It is sad to watch mom grieve and already feel the loneliness death brings.  Today I will claim the promises God has given me to bring me through this sad time in my Christian walk.
