The Lessons Continue

Although I finished writing the studies on prayer, my lessons continue. Sometimes God allows things to enter our lives when the last thing in the world we need to hear are rules, gimmicks and guidelines.

Recently shingles attacked my peaceful nerve endings. One night as I lay wallowing on the floor in my furnace of pain, I began the “Seven Rules to Obey When We Pray.” Not now, I screamed. “Jesus, help me! Jesus, help me!” I grasped for my Lifeline. He was there!

THE PASTOR’S WIFE

HER WORK IN THE CHURCH
Proverbs 31: 31
“Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.”

The pastor’s wife is, most of the time, overworked but never under blessed. She teaches, works in WAC, goes to conferences, cooks for fellowships, she works up the bulletin, she types sermons, drives the church van, takes her turn in the nursery, directs plays, makes costumes, plays the piano or organ, organizes children’s choir, keeps the church in spiritual signage, visits the nursing home, writes cards and letters, keeps up with the homebound, keeps the church abreast on news from missionaries near and far, and if it falls her lot, she cleans the church. Every work is a hill to conquer and time wasted is time lost. She is efficient and capable in the way she carries out these duties and always gives God the glory for everything she does.

God bless the pastor’s wife for her work in the church.

THE PASTOR’S WIFE

HER CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE CHURCH
Proverbs 31:13
“She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.”

The pastor’s wife contributes to the church in her willingness to serve. She not only has her work at home but most often she has multiple duties in the church. Even if she has a public job she carries her weight in the church. She performs her responsibilities with a sweet and willing heart. She often accepts positions that no one seems to desire. However, she accepts them as if God placed them her hand. What she does in the church is done willingly.

God bless the pastor’s wife and her contributions to the church.

THE PASTOR’S WIFE

FROM A PASTOR’S POINT OF VIEW: What A Pastor Needs In A Wife

Proverbs 31:23
“Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.”

PART II

In addition to the qualities mentioned in yesterday’s post, it is also true the pastor’s/preachers wife is in public view. All her virtues and vices will be carefully scrutinized. While not perfect, she must always desire to maintain irreproachable behavior. Many will, in an effort to undermine the preacher, do so through an attack upon his wife. Her response to provocation is more important than the provocation itself, much of which will be trivial in nature. Her mature reaction shows her to be spiritual while at the same time formidably supported by her position.
She is a woman with all the inherent qualities this suggests. However, she is God’s woman, the helpmeet to the man God has called. She must be the anchor that holds in the storm, the rudder that directs in the ocean of ministry and the first mate that supports the wishes of the captain.

THE PASTOR’S WIFE

FROM A PASTOR’S POINT OF VIEW: What A Pastor Needs In A Wife

Proverbs 31:23
“Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.”

PART I

God does nothing without purpose nor does He leave anything to chance. The call to the ministry is a selection by God, to a special man, for the spiritual purpose of preaching the gospel. This “call” may involve many different paths of execution, pastor, evangelist, teacher, preacher and many others. While it is not necessary for this man to be married, the presence of a helpmeet can be an invaluable asset for his ministry. When God calls the man He must also prepare the woman who will be his wife. She then must be a woman who has a keen sympathy to the leadership of God, she will be “prepared” by the Lord for this purpose. Another of her virtues must be having a quiet and obedient spirit. She is not the one called but a support to the preacher—much like the staff of a brilliant surgeon in support of the one who skillfully uses the knife to heal the physical illnesses of his patients. Her support of her husband must be staunch both in public and in private. She can be the stalk that holds the grain or the wind that spreads it. Her goals must be as his goals; they win or lose as a team.

THE PASTOR’S WIFE

GOD BLESS THE PASTOR’S WIFE
Proverbs 31:29
“Many daughters have done virtuously but thou excellest them all.”

God bless our pastor’s wife. A woman of faith and spirit. A woman who keeps the ministry flowing and full of excitement and joy. Her hands are always about her Father’s business. Always the encourager and uplifter. The one who keeps her husband, children and home a priority in her life yet reaching within to serve the church with all her heart, mind and soul. All her sacrifices, work and dedication will one day be rewarded by our Lord and Savior.

God Bless the pastor’s wife!

THE PASTOR’S WIFE

HER FAITHFULNESS TO THE CHURCH
Proverbs 31:25
“Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.”

From the day the pastor’s wife arrives at their new church until the day she departs on new journeys, she desires to be steadfast and faithful. She draws from her strength to be committed to the church. She honors all she does with her faithful spirit. She says no only when she realizes the task requested will affect her faithfulness with other responsibilities. She is faithful to God, her husband and the church.

God bless the faithfulness of the pastor’s wife.
