THE PASTOR’S WIFE
Herself

Proverbs 31:10 Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.

The pastor’s wife is a woman selected by God for the mission of ministering with her husband. She is not just the pastor’s wife but an individual with her own distinctive qualities. She is the lovely woman who stands and works beside her husband, the pastor. Her personality and inward beauty are the traits of her identity. Her creativity and artistic abilities are always laid before us as an offering of talent. Her faith and spiritual character blossoms with her daily walks with the Lord. She is not just a job title but a wonderful blessing we receive when we call a pastor to our church.

The Cost Of A Stamp

Acts 15:31
“Which when they had read, they rejoiced for the consolation.”

Wow! Stamps have gone up. We can complain and fuss, but the cost of a stamp will still be forty-one cents.
When we mail a shut-in a card of cheer or our pastor a letter of encouragement, the value of a stamp seems greater. When a missionary gets a greeting or package with something inside they have needed or wanted for months, the cost of postage becomes priceless.
Today let’s increase the value of our stamps or postage.

The Cookbooks

Luke 15:8
“Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece doth not light a candle and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it.”

Before I married, I started a hope chest. Among those hopeful items was a set of cookbooks I purchased through a grocery store offer. I bought one volume each week for the low price to accumulate the twelve volume set. I got in late on this offer. I started my collection with volume four, but I faithfully bought the rest of the set. Thirty years later, at an indoor flea market with my daughter-in-law, I found volumes one, two and three. I had been looking for years. I even wrote letters and tried to call about these volumes.

It is equally important that we diligently seek after lost souls.

9-11

Ezekiel 7:25
Destruction cometh; and they shall seek peace, and there shall be no more.

On September 11, 2001, I got up, did some household chores, then got ready to drive and meet my youngest son for lunch. My husband and middle son were in New Jersey on business about 70 miles from New York City. I walked into the conference room and over to my youngest son. Everyone’s eyes were glued to a television set, watching the disaster in progress. My son put his arm around me and explained as much as he knew. I broke down and cried, and he gently led me out of the room. I tried to compose myself to call my husband and urge him to come home, which he did immediately, before they shut down the roadways. That day was full of unrest and fear as to what would happen next. I carried the assurance of my salvation that day knowing if this were the end of time. I would leave for Heaven.

On September 11, 1967, my husband and I married. We share every year with these tragic events of 9-11, and share our hope in the Lord for whatever the future holds for us.

You Choose

Ephesians 5:16
Redeeming the time because the days are evil.

I am using a familiar phrase a lot these days, it is “I don’t have the time”. My husband says I am not making good choices over things I can control. So, I sat down and thought about what I might be doing to sabotage my time. First I realized it was a matter of dedication and choice rather than not having the time. I needed to make good choices in spiritual and physical matters and clear the time for the things I choose. I must keep in mind, there are those things that are out of my hands. But these can be dealt with upon arrival. Remember anything that is out of our hands is under His feet.

There are still times when I feel pushed and out of time, but I am trying really hard to redeem the time.

United We Stand

Psalms 133:1
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could all get along? If we could only see how beautiful it is to God to see His children unite in his work. Pleasant is such a sweet word, and that is how God sees us when we are getting along with our sisters and brothers in Christ. I know you’ve heard of churches splitting over carpet, song books and other things that have nothing to do with God’s overall plan for us. We can make a difference today. Women let’s unite so God’s work can successfully and abundantly move ahead. United we stand, divided we hinder the work of the Lord.

Are You Ready?

I Peter 3:15
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts; and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.

How many of us are prepared to answer folks when they ask us about the Christian hope they see in us? Preparation starts with a plan and ends with results. It may take a couple of books and some Bible memorization but we need to be ready to win souls. We can help others learn through the many books, programs and guides published by our denomination. It would also be a great study course for our WAC groups. Let us make ourselves ready to bring the lost to Jesus. Ready? Set? Win!
