The Widows

I Timothy 5:3 “Honor widows that are widows indeed.”

Today I was looking for a Mother’s Day gift in the Bible Book Store. I was gabbing with the owner, and she told me about a ministry their woman’s group has for the widows of their church. A widow is selected or assigned to a woman of the group. The woman is in charge of this special lady throughout the year. It is almost like secret sisters without the secret. Women provide widows reading material and gospel music tapes. They run errands, take them to the store or out to lunch, clean their houses and offer other such services and gifts. At Christmas, the widows are treated to a banquet especially for them—a beautiful meal complete with fine china and tableware. Every widow is presented a very nice gift and treated so very special. The owner of the store said; “I’ve had [my special lady] for seven years, and I wouldn’t trade anything for the experience.”

A Recipe For Failure

Luke 12:19 “And I will say to my soul, soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years, take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.”

1 cup of self satisfaction
1 cup of complacency
1 cup of unconcern
Mix well and we will be cooking a big batch of failure.

The recipe we should follow is..

1 cup fruitfulness John15:1-6
1 cup perseverance I Corinthians 15:58
1 cup brotherly kindness I Peter 4:7-11

Let’s beware not to mix the wrong recipe for life. Follow the recipe book—God’s Holy Word.

Answered Prayer

John 14:13,14
“And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.”

Why is it when we pray, we make our request and then worry, fret and doubt? These Scriptures plus many, many more give us the promise of answered prayer.

Why is it when the Lord answers our prayers we are relieved and overjoyed? We could eliminate the anxiety by simply having faith in the Lord that He will do what He says He will do.

Praise the Lord for answered prayer!

People Meeting A Need

Philippians 4:19
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

This is a true incident told to me by my mother. Sometime in the fall of 1947, my father and mother were eating in a restaurant in Oregon. During their meal, a family of six came in. They laid down only enough money for one or two meals and asked the waitress to please bring as much food as the money would buy. The restaurant workers filled the table with food. Mom said that as folks finished their meals, they went by this family’s table and laid money down at the father’s plate.

Sometimes God uses people to supply the needs of others. Those people could be you and I.

The Blessing

Matthew 6:11 “Give us this day our daily bread.”

Occasionally I bring my groceries in, unpack them, put away any refrigerated items, and place the rest on the counter. Then, I look over my blessings and give thanks. Oh how wonderful it is to know the Lord will provide. He has so graciously provided for our family over the years, as I know He has for yours. I am so thankful and feel blessed for His provision.

Who Me? Peculiar?

Titus 2:14 “Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.”

Sometimes it’s a little uncomfortable if someone makes us feel like we are odd or different. Dear sister, it is a compliment to be peculiar in this world. The Lord has redeemed us from sin to cleanse us for Himself a “peculiar people”. Consider it an honor to be different. Our zeal for good works will set us apart from the ordinary. Are you peculiar? Wonderful.
