Another Dad

Psalm 82:3
“Defend the poor and fatherless, do justice to the afflicted and needy.”

As the world grows farther away from God, it leaves casualties. Through various circumstances, many children have no earthly father. They have not a true Christian example to follow. We have these forsaken children in our churches and they need another dad—one who can teach them how to be saved, how to live Christian lives and give them spiritual guidance they cannot get anywhere else. Be another dad or another mom and take these children under our wings. Share with them the spiritual training they so desperately need.

Our Heavenly Father

I John 3:1
“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God:”

Indeed, can we explain the love of God? Can we truly know the volume of love He has for us? He is our Heavenly Father and we are His children. He gave us His only Son to free us from the bondage of sin. He has opened up Heaven’s storehouse and given us access to these awesome treasures. He wants the best for us as we give Him our best, and when our life’s work is done He has prepared a heavenly home for us. He is the greatest Father; He is the only Father. He is our Father.

Our Dads

Exodus 20:12a
“Honor our father and mother…”

Our dads! How we love them. They are handsome, good providers, strict and funny. They give us encouragement while building a sense of character in us. We were true children and needed the firm guidance of our fathers. We needed them more than we realized. The proud moments of our lives are when they walk us down the aisle and place our hand into the hand of another. This Fathers Day let us give honor to our fathers and thank them for all they did and are doing for us as children. From those of us whose dads are on heavens shore, spend all the time you can with your dad.

Only One God

2 Kings 18:27
“And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them and said, cry aloud; for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing or he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked.”

There was a challenge between Elijah and the prophets of Baal. The prophets dressed their offering and called on the name of Baal from morning till noon with no results. At this point Elijah mocked them about their god.

Praise the Lord we do not serve a god who is on a journey, but a God who is with us every step of our journey. He is always with us and hears us when we call on His Holy Name. We serve the one and only true and living God.

Outlook vs. Uplook

Titus 2:13 “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ;”

THE OUTLOOK
Wars and rumors of war, famines, pestilence, earth quakes, betrayal, hate, false prophets, abundant sin, sickness, death, and many, many more dark scary things that will cross our paths.

THE UPLOOK
God’s warm love, His mercy, His grace, His peace, His presence, His guidance, His assurance, His promises, His watch care, the joy He gives, the contentment He gives, His companionship and at His command His coming back for us, and finally His heaven He has prepared for those of us who are “looking for that blessed hope.”

Who Has The Power?

Ephesians 1:19
“And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to usward who believe according to the working of his mighty power.”

I heard this quote this morning and thought it insightful, “Never ask anyone who will say no, when you can ask someone who has the power to say yes.”
Dear sisters in Christ we know who has this power. God the Father has the power to say yes and will say yes. The following is a quote from Lorene Miley in her Co-Laborer editorial (October, November, December, 1982). They needed $10,000.00 in their account before their departure.

“That July we attended our National Association and my husband gave a brief testimony and announced we were ready to leave for the field. That’s all God’s people had been waiting to hear! The money poured in, not $5,000.00, not $10.000.00 but $17.000.00.”

I know there are a thousand other accounts of God’s power and willingness to say yes. We serve a Great God, who has the power.

Proverbs 31:10
A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.

The Preacher’s Wife

You may think it quite an easy task
And just a pleasant life,
But really, it takes lots of grace
To be a preacher’s wife.

She’s supposed to be a paragon,
Without a fault in view;
A saint when in the parsonage
As well as in the pew.

Her home must be a small motel
For folks that chance to roam,
And yet have peace and harmony
The perfect preacher’s home

Whenever groups are called to meet
Her presence should be there
And yet the members all agree
She should live a life of prayer.

Though hearing people’s burdens,
Their griefs both night and day,
She ought to spread but sunshine
To those along the way.

She must lend a sympathetic ear
To every tale of woe,
And then forget about it
Lest it to others go.

Her children must be models rare
Of quietness and poise,
But still stay on the level
With other girls and boys.

You may think it quite an easy task,
And just a pleasant life,
But really, it takes lots of grace
To be a preachers wife.

~ The Preacher’s Wife ~

In the shadow of the parsonage
Stands a figure oft obscure.
Just behind the faithful pastor
Is his wife, devout and pure.
She is with him every moment
Helping make his work progress,
And you can’t discount her portion
In the measure of success.
Oft behind the scene of action,
Often never seen or heard,
Yet she stands forever ready
Just to give a helping word.
It is not in active service
That her worth is really shown,
But in the bearing heavy burdens
That to others are unknown.
With encouragement and vision
She must urge God’s servant on,
When the shadows are the darkest
And his courage’s almost gone.
With her home forever open
And her work quite never done,
She is ever his lieutenant
In the battles fought and won.
T. R. Buzzard (poem distributed by FWBHM some years ago)
