The Ever-Abiding Spirit

“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever” (John 14:16).

We weren’t there when Jesus talked with His disciples, trying to make them understand He was going to have to leave them. If we would have been we, too, would have felt their sadness. Have you ever faced times of sadness when it seemed you could find no peace or comfort? If you have, then you could have sympathized with the disciples. When your spirit cannot find comfort or rest, God understands and He feels your pain. He understood His followers’ pain as well. He couldn’t help but say to them the words of our Scripture verse. God sent someone who knew His will and what He would do if He could physically be with them then and us now. When we are saved, we receive the gift of that comforting Spirit that will never leave us.
