Search Me

Psalm 139:23,24
“Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

On the TV show “Cops,” when police officers apprehend someone they often search him. More times than not, the officers find drugs or some other illegal item. The offender is then taken to jail.

The Psalmist asked God to search his heart, mind and soul to see if he had some wickedness hidden within. This search is good because it takes us to repentance. God will forgive our sins and lead us into the life that will take us to heaven. “Search us, O God!

Before And After Salvation

Hebrews 2:3a
“How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation…”

Before salvation, folks are lost on a road to hell. The lost are confused and afraid and immersed in Satan’s power and wrath. Sinners will try to convince others that they are okay and need nothing else in their life. They are busy indulging in the ways of the world and stay as far away from anything that will cause the least conviction. They are miserable and unhappy.

After salvation when sins are confessed, God reaches down and cleanses the heart and soul. A lifetime of shackles are unlocked and stressful burdens are lifted. Saved souls are clean and the consciences are clear. New converts have a desire to be with other Christians, to fellowship and grow in Christ. They are happy and peaceful.

Why do folks wait for this wonderful change? Maybe they need someone to lead them into this great salvation.

Thank You, Mrs. Miley

Proverbs 31:10,25
“Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.” “Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.”

Have you ever heard the old adage, “If you want to know someone, just listen to them”? So, I went exploring for gold nuggets from Mrs. Miley, and no surprise, that’s all I found. Here are some priceless gems from Mrs. Lorene Miley.

1958-Woman’s Auxiliary Workbook
“Those Who Lead”
“Those who lead must first spend time alone in meditation and study of His Word. Someone has said we should never talk to others longer than we have talked to God….May we never be guilty of coming before our women until we have first come before God.”

WNAC 1960 Yearbook
“The Woman In Command”
“Be heart prepared by meditating upon His Word and communion with Him. His Holy Spirit eases over the rough spots and gives confidence.”

1961 Co-Laborer April, May, June

“Goals E’re Before Me”
“May distance not be a hindrance in our praying. To be as faithful in praying for our friends at home as we want them to be faithful in praying for us.”

1969 Co-Laborer April, May, June
“Today’s Woman In Africa”
“But most important of all we teach her the Word of God, the most necessary guide of all for a happy, well adjusted life. As she comes into a personal relationship with Christ, we seek to show her how she can relate this experience to her own culture. And, underneath all these efforts is the basic, undergirding principle of love.”

1980 Co-Laborer July, August, September

Editorial: “Leadership”
“The secret is leadership. Show me a good thriving Auxiliary, and I can almost guarantee you there’s an enthusiastic president in there infusing and energizing the program.”

A letter from Bouna, dated 6-27-78

“But with what love He has shown me through Ephesians 3:17 and Colossians 2:17 (“rooted and grounded in love (Christ), and rooted and built up in Him”) that my roots are not in Africa (neither are they in America); they’re in Him. And I can go wherever He leads without being uprooted, for my roots, and even the ground, is firmly implanted in Him. He is the buffer to take all shocks and adjustments. All I need do is abide in Him. And for the peace and joy He has given me in this area I’m deeply grateful.”

Thank You Mrs. Lorene Miley for all the wisdom of gold.

The Real Deal

Romans 8:31 “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?”

Many of us search the ads for the best deals. The best food deals, the best deal on tires, clothing deals…whatever our needs, we look for the best deals.

One of the best deals in the Scripture is “…If God be for us, who can be against us?” The real deal is the gifts God always gives us freely. Today let’s give thanks for all these real deals that the Lord provides for us on a daily basis. Thank you Lord!

Ouch! That Cut Hurts!

Hebrews 4:12
“For the word of God is quick and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Recently I was cutting potatoes with a knife. All of a sudden, I felt a piercing pain. I ran cold water over my thumb and there it was—a cut. I continued peeling the potatoes and cut my thumb again. I changed knives, put a band-aid on the cut and carried on. The cause? A knife that had been sharpened to the handle. When we read God’s Word it will pierce our thoughts and discern our intents, dividing soul and spirit. Now and again, when we feel that sharp pain of God’s Word, we should bellow out, “OUCH!” and praise the Lord.

THE PASTOR’S WIFE
Her Duties

Proverbs 31:12 “She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.”

The duty of a pastor’s wife is to be the pastor’s wife and helpmeet. She serves the church through her husband the pastor. She loves him and has dedicated her life to him. While her dedication and love for him grow, her ability to be the wife he needs becomes more and more a blessing. She is his confidant, his help, his strength, his friend, his lover, his everything. She was chosen and given as a gift to her pastor husband and they shall serve together a lifetime.

How Many Books?

John 21:25
“And there are also many other things which Jesus did the which, if they should be written everyone, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written.”

Jesus is so good to us. And to sit down and count the many, many things He has done in each of our lives would use plenty of paper and ink. The volume of the things Jesus has done will never be able to be counted because He has done things for us—seen and unseen. It would amaze us all to know the times he has granted us protection, love, gifts, healings and other heavenly offerings with His unseen hand. However many books it takes to write down what Jesus has done for us, we can never, ever repay Him so let’s be so very thankful for all He has done for us!
