Be Ready

Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not” (Luke 12:40).

A couple get engaged and plan the wedding.. Once a date and time are set, then they order invitations. The couple and their guests know exactly where to be on that day.

God is the only one who knows when Jesus will come back for His Bride, the Church.   We, as His Bride, must watch and pray lest He comes and we aren’t ready to go with Him.  Live your life as if He could come back today.

Plan Ahead

Read Proverbs 6:6-11.

Part of being resourceful is the challenge of making a plan that will work for you.  There may be times you need to plan ahead.  Seek the advice of older family members.  Most would love it if you would borrow their ideas.  They have run a household longer, so they could give you some tested tips.

In today’s verses, we see the diligence of the ant who is wise enough to store food for the winter.  Most of us describe ourselves as either busy or lazy.  The latter often results in any plan we’ve made to fail.

In the parable of the ten virgins, five did not plan ahead.  They were foolish for not doing so.  They should have bought oil for their lamps.

With all the resources we have to prepare for Christ’s coming, why aren’t we using them?  Don’t wait until it’s too late.

Ideal and Resourceful

Read Proverbs 31-10-31

Once again we visit with our ideal woman, “Ruby.”  This time we are going to see how resourceful she is.  Ruby never had any modern conveniences.  That may have made her work a bit harder.  I don’t read anywhere that she ever complained about her lot in life.  She was resourceful because she had to be and wanted to be.  Being a great wife and mother was like a calling for her.  She trusted God to enable her to carry out her duties.

You may feel, with the changing times, there just aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done. God can help you devise a plan that will work for you. He’s only waiting for you to ask.

Disrepair

“One day King Joash said to the priests, Collect all the money brought as a sacred offering to the Lord’s Temple, whether it is a regular assessment, a payment of vows or a voluntary gift. Let the priests take some of that money to pay for whatever repairs are needed at the Temple” (2 Kings 12:4-5 NLT)

Disrepair within the church. In Joash’s time, it was crumbling foundations, squeaky hinges and crumbling plaster. But today? Today, the remodeling of the church needs to go a lot deeper than sheetrock, new shingles and the flashing neon church sign.

Do you realize what we’re allowing inside our church doors? Complacency. Disregard for all things holy. Laziness. Commitment-less service. Do you have a clue as to how quickly and thoroughly these things can cause the Lord’s house to crumble?

What to do? Well, in this instance, throwing money at the problem won’t fix it…but don’t stop tithing and giving your monetary offerings. It’s not just a matter of giving up a little more cash, writing a few more checks or having an endowment written up for the church for after you’ve passed—we’ve got to give a little more up than that.

It’s time we gave up anything that draws our heart away from worship. It’s time we made the decision to accept the Great Commission and use our church house as a headquarters for the outreach. It’s time we got off our pews and took the church outside the sanctuary and into our neighborhoods and workplaces.

It’s time we stop tearing down the Lord’s House with our haphazard attendance and less than half-hearted praise.

The church is in need of a remodel—your pew, your family, your life may be where the repairs  need to begin.

Word About Town

“We always pray for you, and we give thanks to God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, for we have heard that you trust in Christ Jesus and that you love all of God’s people”  Colossians 1:3-4 NLT.

Paul had heard about the Colossian church’s faith, and he was impressed.  He’d heard the rumors of their trust in Christ and the stories of how they had put feet on their faith.

What would he have heard about you?  What comments might I hear if I were to bring your name up in conversation with another?

Is the rumor floating around town that you are a Bible believing, prayer trusting, focused on a living Savior kind of person?

Is loving one of the top ten character traits people might list when referring to you?

What are people saying about you?

Preparing for a Heavenly Wedding

“For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ” (Ephesians 4:12).

We, as children of God, wait for our Bridegroom to come. He showers us with love and gifts. The latter helps us, as well as others, make ready for the most glorious wedding ever. He bestows gifts to promote unity and help us encourage each other in the faith.  Following today’s verse, we find some rules on how to best apply our God-given gifts.

These gifts can be wisely used in any relationship.  They are there to help us be ready when the Bridegroom comes.

Hindered Prayers

“Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honor unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered” (1 Peter 3:7).

Though our verse is directed toward the men, we, as women, should not give them any reason for not treating us with honor.  Christian couples are partners in receiving God’s blessings. If there are some issues in our marriages that are causing problems, our prayers may be hindered.  We are borrowing trouble if we allow that to go on when we know He stands ready to help resolve any problems we face.

Is there something in your relationship with Christ that is hindering you from all He would have you be?  Ask Him for help in removing any obstacles.
