Walk in the Spirit

“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16).

We are born into sin and have a sin nature. When we are born again and receive the gift of His Spirit, we begin to walk or live a new lifestyle. Our sinful nature tends to conflict with the Spirit so you have to be prepared to do battle. It is vital for us to listen to the instructions of the Holy Spirit who will daily teach us how to “walk in the Spirit.” If we follow His instructions, we may stumble but we won’t be so apt to stray away from God. We can overcome fleshly desires but we must do this through the power of the Holy Spirit.

The Ever-Abiding Spirit

“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever” (John 14:16).

We weren’t there when Jesus talked with His disciples, trying to make them understand He was going to have to leave them. If we would have been we, too, would have felt their sadness. Have you ever faced times of sadness when it seemed you could find no peace or comfort? If you have, then you could have sympathized with the disciples. When your spirit cannot find comfort or rest, God understands and He feels your pain. He understood His followers’ pain as well. He couldn’t help but say to them the words of our Scripture verse. God sent someone who knew His will and what He would do if He could physically be with them then and us now. When we are saved, we receive the gift of that comforting Spirit that will never leave us.

The Spirit of Adoption

“…But ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry Abba, Father” (Romans 8:15).

I have talked with people who have been adopted. They feel very special because someone chose them to live in their family. They have the same rights and privileges as if they were naturally born into that family. In a sense, this is a picture of us when we are born into the family of God. By the grace of God, we “have received the Spirit of adoption.” We can have a close family relationship with God by this adoption. Just like an earthly adoption, the adopted one shares in any inheritance as well. Someday we’re going to be “joint-heirs” with Jesus. Until Christ’s return we have been given the privilege to “cry Abba, Father.” Some commentaries translate this phrase as “Daddy.” We would never think of calling Him that but isn’t it wonderful to know we can have that close of a relationship?

PRAY TOGETHER: Take time to reflect on September’s TWG study. Have you felt the Holy Spirit’s presence?

He’s Everywhere

“If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold thou art there” (Psalms 139:8).

Since there is an extra week following the September Bible study, I thought I would use some scriptures I discovered while preparing the previous devotions. It is possible I may have to refer back to some of these verses when we continue with our study in October.

The first week we studied about the person of the Holy Spirit. He has attributes just like God and the Son. One of them is He is omnipresent. In today’s verse we find God is never out of our reach. He loves us and He always knows where we are. He carefully watches over us wherever we go and whatever we face. We need not worry or fear when we know He is always near by.

God’s Supply

“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).

This is a very hard time of the year financially for WNAC. Sometimes, it is easy to be discouraged because of the lack of funds. However, we must remind ourselves that God owns it all. He will surely supply our needs.

Help us pray for God’s supply and what you could possibly do to help with the needs of WNAC.

You are Filled and it Shows

“Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus” (Acts 4:13).

There are so many things I could say about what happens when a person is saved. That person has turned from sin and the Spirit now lives within. You begin to see their life gradually change. They are developing new habits and changing their way of thinking. Their priorities are changing. However, two of the biggest changes are in their countenance and demeanor. Other people can’t help but notice the change. As children of God, we are different and it shows. What a wonderful testimony it is when others look at us and notice the difference! As we daily commune with God may those around us be drawn to hear our witness and testimony because they see we’ve “been with Jesus.”
