Made in His Image

“So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him, male and female created He them” (Genesis 1:27).

It’s humbling to think, in light of all God created, He saved the best for last. Nothing else was made in the “image of God.” Everything God made, He commented how good it was. Everything was perfect and was glowing in the light of the Creator. However, something was about to happen that would mar that perfection and try to dim His Light.

I never want to give the devil credit for anything, but he continues today to stamp out anything with the image of God. He strives to cause His Light within us to grow dim or go out. We must draw ever closer to God to keep our light shining bright until His return. If we keep shining for Jesus we are fulfilling the purpose for which He created us. We were created to serve and
glorify Him. Once we fully understand this concept, we will be willing to pray, give, or go to further the gospel. We must strive to let our light shine to point others to Jesus. Isn’t that what missions is all about?

The Glory of God

“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament sheweth His handiwork” (Psalm 19:1).

Even when we fail to “declare the glory of God,” everything else God has created does. I love spring time. Trees and flowers are in colorful bloom and grass becomes greener. Everything seems to come alive after a long, winter’s rest.

I have not traveled much but, in the past three years, I have been privileged to see the Pacific Ocean and to survive a drive up to the top of Pike’s Peak. I was in such awe of the majesty of God’s handiwork. I’ve seen countless pictures from other people’s travels. It’s hard to fathom some people do not give God credit for His power and wisdom in all He has created. If all the beauty and majesty of nature declare His glory, we, as the highest form of His creation, should be willing to do the same.

In The Beginning

“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth” (Genesis 1:1).

Our devotions this week deal with the subject, “My Concept of God.” If we are going to be a witness for God, we must get a true concept of who God is. This only comes from His Word and we must go back to the beginning of time. This is when we find the source of the true Light of the world. That source will be the only one that can light our path as we labor for Him. How can our light shine if we know very little about the character of God? The first recorded accomplishment of God was to take total darkness on an earth without form and void and create Light. He spoke into existence light, not having anything but His power and the sound of His voice. The main emphasis of all Creation; God performed it, not man. In spite of any ridiculous theories, we must accept, by faith, that “In the beginning God….” God made everything and knew, from the beginning, what would follow. The One who made darkness turn to light looks to us to allow His light to shine through us to a world walking around in the darkness of sin.

A Merry Heart

“A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance…” (Proverbs 15:13a).

There is one thing in the whole world that everyone understands and that is a smile. Working on a merry heart will give us that cheerful facial expression that shows our happiness within. There is a lost world looking for happiness and a life filled with joy and smiles. We must show them that Christ is the benefactor of life and a merry heart. Let us share our smile with someone today.

A Merry Heart

“A merry heart doeth good like a medicine…” (Proverbs 17:22a).

Don’t you just love someone who has the characteristics of a very happy person? They don’t let the little things get them down and they handle the big things with strength and grace. Dear sister all we have through our Father and His Son Jesus should keep us on shouting ground 24-7. The person with a merry heart is a thankful person, one who is grateful for all the Lord has done for us. If we want a merry heart all we need to do is sit down, pen in hand, and count our blessings.

Be Diligent not Lazy

“He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand; but the hand of the diligent maketh rich” (Proverbs 10:4).

In the New Testament in 2 Thessalonians 3:10, if a man wouldn’t work, he shouldn’t eat. There would be some people today that would have starved to death if they had live in New Testament times. You will never see God commending laziness.

If we expect to make a successful living we must be willing to work diligently. If you have the health and strength to work you should. Today both men and women are working outside the home. Their jobs wouldn’t last long if they were to slack off or be lazy.

In Proverbs chapter 6 we read the story of the ant and the sluggard. It’s a good illustration of the diligent and the lazy. If you ever watched a colony of ants in the summer they are busy about storing up for the winter. They may be little but they aren’t lazy. Do you see yourself as the ant or the sluggard?

There is the satisfaction of a job well done which won’t appear on a person’s paycheck, but it is like a personal bonus. If you are fortunate enough to have a job, work as if you are doing it for the Lord. If your “job” is within your local church, be just as diligent about your work. The latter is “laying up treasures” in Heaven and nothing will be as rewarding as hearing our Lord say, “well done thou good and faithful servant.”

A Good Name is Priceless

“A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches…” (Proverbs 22:1a).

How do people react when your name is mentioned? Do the character traits you display cause them to speak of you in a negative or positive way? If you are person of integrity, people will respect your good name. Will you be a person of good report or a target for ugly gossip? Your name and influence will live on long after you bid this world farewell.

Choose to leave the legacy that goes with the fact your good name is engraved in the “Lamb’s Book of Life.” This will make it eternally “priceless.”
